Combat system Mechanics?

Hey,
Would it be possible to get some info on how the combat system works. We see each ship has an attack bonus, defense bonus, and have been told that some ships work better against others like fighters with supercapitals. It would be great to see the mechanics though so we can start working combat, fleet, and planet seige strategies.
